Invinite Append

I am sure this is an easy question !

If I have a 50gb tape and I set the overwirte period to 4 weeks and the append period to infinte and a few backup job fill the tape up what will happen when the overwrite period for the first backup written to the tape expires ? Will the whole tape get overwritten including the other backup jobs which have not had there overwrite period expire yet ?

Or will it only overwrite the portion of the tape that has its overwrite expire ?

Overwrite protection is based on the whole tape, not a specific set on the tape.

When the tapes gets overwritten, you lose all the backups from the tape.

To expand on what John said

Overwrite is calculated on the timestamp of the last file of the last backupset written to the tape

(and Append Period os calculated from the timestamp of the first file of the first backupset written to the tape )
