Is Outlook required for mailbox brick level backup?

Is Outlook required on an Exchange 2003 server in order to do a brick level backup? Or, is it only required on the Backup Exec Media server?

You only need Outlook on the Media Server, not any other servers on your network.

This is because BackupExec accomplishes Brick Level backups by loggin into Exchange, attaching to each selected mailbox and then opening and reading each item using standard MAPI calls

Well outlook is not a must but it is recommended to have a default mail client as outlook than any other mail client on the media server.
