Is it impossible to fully disable AOFO when running Exchange GRT jobs, or is this just a quirk......

I've been working on GRT issues (incremental GRT) for some time now and just noticed this from my (full) GRT backup logs:

AOFO: Started for resource: "\\myexchange\Microsoft Information Store\Public Folder Storage Group". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). The following volumes are dependent on resource: "E:" "F:" . The snapshot provider used by VSS for volume E: - Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0 (Version 1.0.0.7). The snapshot provider used by VSS for volume F: - Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0 (Version 1.0.0.7).

The funny thing is that I don't even install the AOFO option when I install the remote agents on my Exchange servers, so I have to assume that this is a quirk. I know that BE uses volume shadow copies during Exchange backups no matter what you do, so I have to assume that this message is part of that.

Anyone see similar results in their logs?

Jason

What version of Exchange are you running?

2007 SP1 + update rollup 3 (we haven't installed rollup 4 yet).

Server host is 2003 Ent x64 fully patched.

Thanks,
