I have a Dell Power Edge 2600 with a 40/80 GB DLT. Veritas BE was running fine for many months then suddenly the job engine stops alost instantly after a job is started. I was running 9.0 but followed the support articles and updated to 9.1 sp2.

In event viewer I get a generic message:

I used the BE Utility to repair my database as well but still the job engine just stops any time you try to run a job. If I try to modify the job BE just quits.

I even erased the tape after reading a technote that said a tape used by a job that crashed can no longer be appended too.

Hello,

There are several reasons why the job engine could crash. Please check the following:

1. Have you selected automatic cancellation of the job after which the job engine stops. If yes please uncheck this option.

2. What is the exact error message with which the job fails.Check the job log for the same

3. Check if you have any alerts in the alerts tab.

4. What were the results after repair install completion.

5. Please check the Dr watson and crash dump for more clues on the crash.

NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answeredand would be moved toanswered questions pool.

No I didn't configure the job to cancel.
The error message was "The Job Engine stopped responding"

I got desperate and called Veritas Phone Support. We were able to determine that the job was corrupt. I recreated the job and suddenly it ran ok.
