Job Operation Delete -> ERROR: Unable to attach to \\dnsname.com\[ROOT].

To all,

We use a Redhat Enterprise 3 Server. We dont have any problems if we want to backup the machine. It runs smoothly already for a couple of months.

However if we want to make a backup with the ARCHIVE option, it fails. For some reason the agent doesnt want to delete the files. We receive the following errors:

Delete
Unable to attach to \\dnsname.com\.
V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.

All the directories are been set to:

chmod 777 ./*

This means that the root should have all permissions. He also owns the directories.
The policy is also set to remove all the subdirectories. It doesnt have to preserve the substructure of the directories.

What causes this error?

Hello,

What is the exact version of the Redhat linux?

Are you using RALUS or it is a legacy unix agent?

Hello,

Currently we use the following version of Linux:

Linux version 2.4.21-40.ELsmp (bhcompile@hs20-bc1-7.build.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-54)) #1 SMP Thu Feb 2 22:22:39 EST 2006

For Ralus we use:

(is the ralus.ver file the file that contains the version number?)

5484 (Ralus version)

Kind regards,

Bart P

Hi,

Please note that the concept of an archive bit is not valid in UNIX environments.

You can perform the unix backups using modified time method.

Refer: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/277484.htm

Thanks!

To all,

I saw that Symantec has released a new version of Backup Exec, version 10d. I already installed it on my Backup Exec sever.

Is there also a new Ralus available for Linux? If it is available, where can I download it? Will this solve my problem? I noticed that there isnt a lot response to my problem. Is this because there is bug into the Ralus?

Thanks,

Bart

To all,

I installed the latest Ralus driver: Q180968.BE.RALUS.10.1.5629.3.tar_279329

I still have the same problem. The files aren't removed after the BACKUP.

Is this A BUG in the SYMANTEC software?

Any help appreciated.
