I keep receiving the following message under the Verification Process in the job logs.

"Difference encountered in file data"

This message is displayed from individual files to items within exchange.

I have tried cleaning the drive multiple times, have tried different drives. Tried new media tapes, have uninstalled and reinstalled between BackUp Exec 9 and 10 mulitple times.

Where could the problem lie?

I had a similar problem, I narrowed it down to the exchange information store.

To sort it I ran a defrag and fix on the exchange databases using Microsofts ESEutil

It basically cleans up any corrupt data in the databases. This sorted it out.

If this does not work try running one backup without verifying turned on. You might find you get a successful backup and their is something wrong with the verifying part of backup exec, rather than exchange.
