LP_CHECKSUM_FAILURE

Rodger_Zeisler
Not applicable
I installed a 2TB RAID array in my backup server so that I could backup-to-disk and then duplicate the backup to tape. When backing up the disk backup to tape, on some of my backups, I get an LP_CHECKSUM_FAILURE. I can't find any information for this error, either on the veritas site (other then a multi-language translation page) or on the Quantum site. We are using Windows 2000 and a Quantum SDLT320 drive. I am running 9.1 SP2 with all the hotfixes applied.

Hello,

It seems that you are using raid controller.
We do not recommend to use the raid controller , we suggest you to use th escsi controller.

You can refer the following technote:

Why is it recommended that tape devices should not be connected to RAID controllers?

This error may occur if there are some bad blocks on the tape. To resolve
this error, take a pair of fresh media and perform normal and duplicate
backup jobs. This would surely help in isolating the issue

I'm having the same exact issue with a similar setup,

winxpsp2
vertias 9.1 w/ all the hotfixes
quanutm sdlt320

and

a 29160 (recommended by veritas and quantum)

I was attempting a restore to wipe the tapes I have and re-do the partially failed backup. Upon the restore I recieved the failure of LP_CHECKSUM and am not certain whether or not my restore is complete (over 500GB of data). I want to avoid restoring again and also resolve why I recieved this error.

Hello,

1.Had the first job to disk succeeded without errors or exceptions.
2. Please run a verify operation to verify the integrity of the data.
3. plezse check if the disk is fragmented ecessively.

all the data was verified and restored correctly,

i've sinced wiped and re-used the tapes to perform additional backups, and can not re-create the problem.

i've moved the data from multiple media servers so i think the database/catalog information was messed up. Thats the only thing I can reason out as the issue.

What does the default "write checksums to media" actually do when creating a job?
