I am confused as to when I need to buy the Linux Agent. If the 'included' agent works to backup Linux why would I spend additional money to purchase the Linux Agent??

Hi,

Backup exec 10.0 has included this new feature called RALUS (Remote agent for Linux and Unix servers)

The new VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent for Linux/Unix Servers (RALUS) is installed as a separate, add-on component that enables Windows Server network administrators to perform backup and restore operations on major Linux and Unix hosts
that are connected to the network.

The earlier versions of backup exec used the Unix GRFS agent as compared to the latest RALUS working on NDMP technology. It is more faster and the performance is better as compared to the older agent. It also has greater platform support.

You can refer the Backup exec admin guide manual, page no # 819 for more details on this agent.

You can download the soft copy of the manual from the following link,

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/269777.htm

We hope this helps.
