Linux Agent for Backupexec 10d

Installed the linux agent for Windows 2003 media server on a red hat server. Initial install appeared fine and afte reboot appears Ralus server started with no worries.
Checked with the Media server with remote selection and could see the Linux box, but on attempting to select it received an access denied error message. After 2 more attempts Linux remote icon disappeared has not returned. Checked to see if port 10000 is open and it is. Any suggestions, must I add the Media server admin to the beoper group on the Linux box? Thanking you in advance for your prompt reply.

a hui hou,

The beoper group has to be created on the Linux system and the Backup Exec logon account should belong to the group.
Refer to the following document for more details:

If this does not solve the issue, then you're facing an incompatibility between RALUS and the Linux operating system version. Try to uninstall RALUS and use the Legacy UNIX Agent:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/262592

Have also a look at the Software Compatibility List for RALUS. Note that RALUS is compatible with the EXT3 filesystem of REDHAT Linux only.

Mahalo for response. Checked to see if port 10000 is open on both MS 2003 Media server end and Linux host. Both are available, obvious it is available on MS side as we currently backup 2 remote Server 2003 boxes. Added the backup administrators name to the beop group on the Linux host and now can login in to the Red Hat box without initial permission error, but know cannot see any of the shares, Samba or otherwise.

Installed agent originally following document ID: 282010, http://support.veritas.com/docs/282010 and incurred no errors.

Any suggestions, would like to get this up and running ASAP to reconfigure backup schema on site so backups can be constrained to under 5 hours.

Thanking you in advance.

Did you check the if the Samba version you are running is supported or not ?

And can you see the linux box's file system?
Try adding the sever via "User Defined Selections".
If there is a firewall between your Linux server and the Media Server try opening more ports.

Stupid question but are the services running?
I had the same problem install went fine but the service where stopping/crashing all the time. So I reverted back to an older client for the 9x system. Installed it and the backup are now going perfect. If you install this you will find your system under remote selections->backup exec 8.x and 9.x agents.
