I'm running Backup Exec 10d & need to include a linux ubuntu host in my bkup routine. If I purchase the BE linux agent will that work on ubuntu & is it supported by Symantec. Below is the output from uname -a on the linux node.
Linux mcf datalibrary 2.6.12-10-386 #1 Sat Mar 11 16:13:17 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
There are two UNIX/LINUX agents: 1. For Enterprise server (RALUS agent): This is a paid option whereas it works only with Enterprise servers. 2. Legacy support: It is a free option which comes along with BE v10d (10.1) and can work with any Linux/UNIX OS mentioned in Backup exec Software compatibility list.
Ubuntu is not supported. Hence we cannot guarantee backup/restore/install operations. You may use Legacy support option for backing up "Ubuntu". However we do not give any guarantee of correct functionality.
You may refer to the following link to check SCL for BE v10d: http://support.veritas.com/docs/278254

All you have to do is browse ot Program files>Veritas>Backup exec>NT>Agents> Legacy Unix Agent and then go ahead with the installation.
Hope this helps!
