I tried all 3 but they did not work
I checked for the cache file, but it did not exist on either server on any drive. I changed the 2 registry settings on both servers. reboot both servers, and then tried to do the backup. The situation was the same, ( hung at pre-processing).
I watched the beremote.exe process on the remote server.
I saw how it consumed up to 412MB of ram during the pre-processing stage. It took about 6 min for it to get that high. after which time it crashed the server.
I then tried to create a new backup job that backs up the same data. when I was on the selection view, I noticed that it took an incredibly long time after I clicked a drive with NSFs on it for it to display the contents.
when contents did get displayed, they were incomplete.
a folder with 4 other folders only showed 1. a folder with about 120 files only showed 1.
I then completely unistalled the remote agent, reboot the remote machine, re-installed the remote agent, reboot the remote machine and tried the backiup again.
still got the same result. backup hangs during pre-processing and the agent on the remote machine consumes ram like mad.
any other suggestions?
