MSDE Install Failed - SQLAgentSecurity

Hello everyone,

The MSDE is failing to install during the BackupExec 10d installation. I had attempted many of the fixes posted in the Knowledge Base to no avail, but have recently found the following in the installation logs (searching for "return value 3"):

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Setup.{E09B48B5-E141-427A-AB0C-D3605127224A}
Starting custom action InstallSQLAgentSecurity
InstallSQLAgentSecurity failed (KNS04,LocalSystem,87).
Action ended 19:05:42: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.


How can this problem be resolved? I am searching the knowledge base for this error as well and will post back if I fix the problem.

Change the PDC emulator role on the server your installing to the local DC your on. After install move the role back.

Do you know of any issues with doing that? I can't afford to not have active directory not working, obviously.

There should be no issue.
The issue is not with Symantec is with Microsoft MSDE install. You would have the same error installing another application that uses MSDE.

Backup the system state on your DC's if you worried about it or contact Microsoft and they can walk you thru the manual installation of MSDE
