MSSQL$BKUPEXEC Service will not start

When I try to start the MSSQL$BKUPEXEC Service it gives me a prompt

"Could not start the MSSQL$BKUPEXEC Service on the local computer. The service did not return an error. ...."

This all started to happen when I was trying to upgrade the MSDE to SP4. I've successfully done the install on other servers but do not know what went wrong on this server.

I've renamed the files in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$BKUPEXEC\Data folder and also made sure they are not Read-Only.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to reinstall this service without losing any data/settings?
