Manage Backup-to-Disk Mediasets

We use BE10. We would like to perform D2D backups. I would like to know is there a way to overwrite the 'Overwriteable' media sets? Remember its not tape.. its Disk. Any one know how to get around this?

We have lots of jobs currently going to tape, but instead we would like to put them on Disk first then to Tape. So, in order to maintain the disk space, how to delete media sets that are , say, older than 2 weeks. These will be backed up to tape so we dont want too much files occupying backup-to-disk folders..

I know we can erase media sets manually, but would like to know the automated way..

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated..

Thanks
Sam

Create a seperate media set for your B2D backups.

For that media set you can set the overwrite protection period, eg 2 weeks.

You can also set the append period as well eg 13 days, this will let you append to the media for 13 days, on day 14 you won't be able to append to it, so it will enable you to overwrite this media instead of appending to it.

Then change your backup jobs, you have to point them to use this media set, and also set the backup to "append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available".

The above is an example of how you could set things up, there are variations you could do, like set the backup jobs to overwrite the media only (not appending).

Hello,

You can configure the appropriate Overwrite protection period and append period.

Please see the technotes below:
