I have a SBS 2000 sever that ran Backup Exec 4.5. The server has crashed. I do have backup tapes. The version of Backup Exec that was loaded was Backup Exec desktop. The previous Admin somehow loaded this. I am unable to load the desktop on server. My question is can I install Backup Exec 12 and will it read my tapes from the older version??
IIRC, BE for Desktops uses a proprietary backup format that BE for Servers doesn't read.
BE for Desktops should install on an XPPro or Vista machine in compatibility mode, or you can dust off a W2K disk and create a W2K machine and install on that
