Need advise for simple fire & forget B2D Schedule setting with BE2014

Hi,

i need a tip for how to configure a B2D job which "try" to backup 12 phys. Hosts to "D:" without requesting to much interaction with the admin. I am a BE user with beginner level and saw that there is a pretty good looking default job template with a 2 week retention setting. I suppose that everybody here know which job template i mean.

Now i have 2,5 TB of data in sum which have to be backed up an a landing zone of 10 TB. The default setting was to create every friday a full and on the other days inc´s are created. Now, every time when BE found no space left on D: BE is waiting for user action to delete media sets and so on. Even the media sets are marked as unproteced cause their retention time is over.

Is there a setting to let BE overwrite the data without requesting for user action?

b) how have the b2d settings have to be understood: When BE is backing up two times a FULL (default setting with a Full every Friday and retention of 2 weeks) will the 3rd Full let the oldest Full be deleted? and what about the 6 incs afterwards?

Best regards

B2D/tape have nothing to do with retaining data...this is the job og the media set, specifically Append/OPP Settings.

If you can't fit everything onto the B2D, then your options are as follows:

1. Move to either an INCR/DIFF backup regime which should allow you to fit everything into the 10TB allowed;

2. Change the OPP/Append settings to allow FULL backups to run, at the cost of not being able to retain 2 weeks worth of data. Check the TN below on this:

Thanks!

How BE deletes disk media would depend on the version of BE that you are using, which you did not indicate.

Disk media in BE 2014 is managed by DLM.  See this blog and my article to figure out when your backup chains are deleted and then set your retention period accordingly
