Newbie asking for advice

I am unfamiliar with most of Veritas's products. I would like some advice if anyone has the time. Here is my situation. We are moving to sharepoint and now will be buying a new sql server with either a nas or san solution for the storage. We have backup exec 9 for windows. The sans solution has its own software for Disk to Disk. If we do the NAS can Backup Exec still work or do I need new software?
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

Hello,

Backup Exec can wotk with NAS. However the NAS devices will need to be backed up without using Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) via "User-defined shares. Refer to the following technote for more information on the release notes for 9.0:

Title:Release Notes for VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.0 for Windows Servers revision 4367
http://support.veritas.com/docs/247829

Also check the compatibilty at:

Network Attached Storage appliance compatibility with Backup Exec 8.x and 9.x
http://support.veritas.com/docs/237737

However Backups of Oracle servers are not supported when the databases are stored on a NAS. Refer to the following for additional information:

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers does not support the protection of Oracle databases stored on Network Attached Storage devices.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/262531

Hope this information helps. In case of any more doubts, do write back to the forum. However if we do not receive your update within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.

Regards.
