Hi,

I have set up SMTP notications on two different SBS2K3 servers and they both work for two days and then stop, if the BE services or the servers are re-started it works again for two days and then stops again.

I have carried out the "repair" list in a Veritas tech article about copying the SMTP dll back in etc and this has not helped, can anyone offer any assistance on this issue?

Thanks

Hello,

Does this happen for specific recipient on these servers ?

Have you checked it with other recipients ?

Have you tried reconfiguring the SMTP notificaiton ? If no, please do so and verify the results.

Regards

No it happens for all recipients no matter if they are local ones in the GAL or Contacts in AD.

I have removed the config for SMTP and configured it again, it works for two days and then stops again. Please remember that Veritas is installed on the same server as Exchange as it is an SBS2003 Server.

Hi Gauri,

I had tried all of those docs you listed plus the following one:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/266050

Everyting has been configured as per the various Docs, I am running McAfee VirusScan 8.0 and I have turned off port blocking on port 25, this is required for a number of reasons least of which it that it is a SBS server and no mail would work if it was not opened up, other machines can relay through the server with their notification messages and BE does so twice after a reboot or re-start of the BE services and then stops.

Hi,

You may also test SMTP notification with the help of the following:

How to test Simple Mail Transfer Protocol notification using telnet

I have no desire to be rude but have you read any of my comments?

The notifications WORK for one or two days and then STOP, other clients on the network relay throught the SMTP connection on this server all day every day without issue, your suggestion in the last message does not therefor apply as that test has already been carried out and it works just fine.

Do I have to wait another week to 10 days for another CR*P response?

Eddie,

The error is caused by the "Limit the number of Notifcations Sent" option, when this is enabled only one notifcation is sent, it would appear there is a BUG in this part of the software.

Using an earier version of BE with the notifcations enabled you could find your mailbox being filled with emails requesting that you insert / remove a tape from the drive, so the addition of the "Limit the number of Notifcations Sent" option is a welcome one ... if only it worked correctly!

Cheers

Eddie
