Hello,

we are using a Windows 2003 Server with Backup Exec 10 as a Backupserver. With this server we are backing up our Netware 5.1 - 6.5 server via the BE Agent version 9.1. On one NW5.1 SP5 server we are having SMS-Errors. This is an extract from the NDMP Logfile:

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3):

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3):Mon May 16 20:34:58 2005

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): The file HOME:KARASCT/BLL/"0x5B 0x32 0x33 0x32 0x31 0x5D 0x34 0x30 0x41

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): 0x2D 0x32 0x7E 0x31 0x2E 0x50 0x44 0x46 " contains invalid characters. The

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): file was skipped. The file name is a hexadecimal representation of the

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): string.

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3):

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3):Mon May 16 20:35:01 2005

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): The file HOME:SCHIWEF/DATA/EXCEL/ABLAGE/ARCHIV/FORECAST/1999/"0x41 0x53

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): 0x50 0x5B 0x32 0x32 0x32 0x39 0x5D 0x53 0x2E 0x58 0x4C 0x53 " contains

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): invalid characters. The file was skipped. The file name is a hexadecimal

ndmpdApiLog: entry(3): representation of the string.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Christoph

Hello,

Please reconfigure SMDR:

The Storage Management Data Requester (SMDR) is the communication module in the Storage Management Services (SMS) framework and provides transparent access to local and remote target service agents (TSA). The APIs are used by SBCON and other third-party applications as well.

is used to broadcast the existence of TSAs.

When you first load SMDR, it creates a configuration file (SYS:\ETC\SMS\SMDR.CFG) that determines how it advertises.

You can either edit this file or unload and reload it with LOAD SMDR NEW to reconfigure the advertising methods.

The three methods of advertising available are:

SAP-LOAD IPXCON (which requires SPX connectivity)
SLP-DISPLAY SLP SERVICES (which requires IP connectivity)
NDS- Check SMDR.CFG files (which requires the local and remote server to be in the same tree.)

The Configuration consists of the following settings:

Disable NDS
SMDR Context (only if NDS is enabled)
SMDR Group Context (only if NDS is enabled)
Disable SLP
· Disable SAP

In order to reconfigure in NetWare 5.x, refer to the following steps.

1. Type BESTOP at the system console and unload the Backup Exec module

2. Unload TSA500.NLM
Unload TSANDS.NLM
Unload NDMPD.NLM

3. Unload SMDR.NLM

4. Delete all the contents of the SYS:SYSTEM\TSA\*.* directory

5. If required run DSREPAIR on the server

6. Run LOAD NEW command on server console and configure with following options:

a. Disable NDS = Yes,

b. Disable SLP = No,

c. Disable SAP = No.

d. Disable Name Resolution
