Hello,

-- Take the backup on backup to disk folder just for the test purpose.

-- Also perform the repair database.
Refer the following technote:

How to run a Backup Exec database repair when the original Backup Exec database is found to be inconsistent
http://support.veritas.com/docs/265180

============================================
An error "Media mount failed.User canceled a Physical Volume Library
operation." , error may occur when :
--Job exceeds capacity of media
--A cartridge is not inserted in the Backup Device
--The cartridge cannot be loaded by the robotic arm
--An internal or stand alone drive will not accept the media
--The cartridge is protected by overwrite or append periods
-- hardware, bad media or incorrect driver
To resolve this issue, refer to the following guidelines:
A. Perform the cleaning operations of Tape Device 3-4 times by using fresh
cleaning cartridge in the Tape Drive. Run a test backup and verify the
results.
(Check the tape drive users manual for device specific cleaning
instructions.)
B. Try to run a test backup using fresh media and verify the result.

Hello,

What are you backing up in this job? What is the size of that data, have you ensured if there is enough space on the tape for the backup? Do also verify if you get any errors pertaining to media in the events system logs. What is the device you use for backups? What drivers are you using - Veritas or the OEM drivers?

Do elaborate on the above questions in order to better understand the problem.

Regards.

Hello,
a test backup was successfull. The databse is repaired, but why are the job failed, when our backup-operator changes the second backup tape to the first verify tape. i have make an inventory with the first verify tape and all seems okay. The data volume of the backup seems also be okay.

Hello,
the data size was 400 GB, we use a hp ultrium2 drive with veritas driver, only files backed up with AOFO using VSS. the newest driver are installed. we use 2 tapes and so enough space exists on the second tape.

Thx

Hello,

Are you backing up to a standalone device or a library? It may happen that Backup Exec is unable to detect the media. But when it is actually introduced it is able to backup on it.

Hello,

This error can occur when VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) has lost communication with the device. Disabling the device, deleting the device, and cycling services will force Backup Exec to rescan the SCSI bus for devices, and re-establish communication with the Tape Device.

To do this, perform the following steps:

1. From the Devices tab, right-click on the existing device and select Properties

2. Select the Configuration tab, and clear the Enable device for Backup Exec checkbox and then click OK
3. Right-click on the device again, and select Delete

4. Quit Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000

5. Stop and restart all the Backup Exec services

6. Start Backup Exec. The device should be displayed.

Note 1: If the device is "Disabled," right-click on the device, select Properties, select the Configuration tab, and select the Enable device for Backup Exec option.
Note 2: If the device is not present, see the Related Document "How to troubleshoot issues with the "Robotic Library" and "Tape Drives" in VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers.

7. Edit the backup job to use the new device
