OFO: Snapshot error (0xfffffe1f): The device cannot be found.

Just within the last week, I have started receiving the following error while backing up a remote Windows 2003 server.

OFO: Snapshot error (0xfffffe1f): The device cannot be found.

I have verified that the Open file agent is installed (I even uninstalled and re-installed it). I have also consulted and performed the suggestions from the following technotes to no avail:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/256481

http://support.veritas.com/docs/256107

http://support.veritas.com/docs/256078

http://support.veritas.com/docs/261831

This is getting frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas?

TIA,
Brian

Hello,

This error usually occurs if the backup job is configured to back up via a user defined share to one of the administrative shares.

Also ensure that the backup exec user has admin rights on the remote computer.

Ensure that you have not selected any database file (like SQL or Exchange) along with OFO. OFO can be used for backing up database type files that Backup Exec does not offer an agent for.

We suggest you to create separate job for exchange and OFO.

For more information you can refer the following tech note:

What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/263784.htm

Advanced Open File Option initialization failure: "The device could not be found" when attempting to run a backup of a remote User Defined Selection of an administrative share

Thank You,

Thanks for the reply Shweta.

Although I was not backing up a user-defined share (this backup job had been running for over a year with no problems until recently), I was able to get rid of the error by removing the server from the backup job and adding it back to the job again.

Please consider this post resolved.

Hello,

Are you using the AOFO Option for the Backup?

What Aofo option do you select under the job Properties?

Thank You,

Shweta

Yes, I am using the AOFO Option for the backup.

I select the "Automatically Select Open File Technology" selection under the job properties.

Thanks,
