Online capacity problem - backup failing with Final error: 0xe0008703

Hi,

Trying to perform a backup and the test runs keep failing with final error: 0xe0008703. When the job runs in non test mode (overnight) it fails with a timeout and the only thing that appears in the log is that a media mount was requested at 20:30:06 (time the backup should start) and that is all.

The actual error message from the test runs is :

We are attempting to backup about 35Gb of information to an Iomega Rev 120Gb (Native) drive so there is loads of space. The media set is set to be overwriteable. The backup option  'When this job begins' is set to 'Overwrite'.

It looks like for some reason the media is not considered 'online' I think :S

Even though if I look in Media -> Media Location -> Online Media I can see the disc. THe details are :

Medial Label : Tuesday
Media Description : (Blank Media)
Allocated Date : 19/08/2009 10:57:12
Media Set : Scratch Media
Media Location : Iomega1
Overwrite Protection Until : Overwriteable (Scratch Media)
Appendable Until L: Not Appendable
Used Capacity : 0 bytes of 100.3Gb
Data : 0 Bytes
Compression Ratio : <empty field>

How do I get Backup Exec to recognise the media and then write to it?

Thanks in advance

Erasing the tape appears to have solved the test run issue. Also I found this : http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/263679.htm

Strikes me that we need

a) Improved error reporting and
b) An option to erase/initialise a backup target

Anyway - will mark as solved and this as the solution if the backup runs without incident tonight.

Should mention that the Iomega Rev 120Gb is an external USB version, not an internal SATA version.

Probably relevant!

Cheers
