Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command

I’m currently using BE2010 and device with two drives(HP1 and HP2).  I have a problem whereby if a backup tape that was used in hp1 is full can, hp1 cannot use a tape that was used by hp2 although there is enough space on the backup tape to complete the job. I get this message: Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command. Please help.

May be it is write protected something?

a. Go to the Media tab in Backup Exec

b. Right-click on Media Set 1 (or the media set the current job is targeted), select Properties

c. In the box labeled Overwrite Protection Period (OPP), change Infinite and check

Please refer to

This KB is for 12.5 below only but it may give some idea

When performing a backup operation with Backup Exec, the alert message "Please insert overwritable media" is displayed

" hp1 cannot use a tape that was used by hp2 although there is enough space on the backup tape to complete the job "

If the job is configured to overwrite and if the tape has overwrite protection applied then

you will get the alert to insert overwritable media. As far the overwrite protection does

not end the tape will not be used for backups unless you configure the job to append the

the tape.

Do have partitions configured in your robotic library ? Incase if the answer is yes ,make the backup is not targets to a partition ,if it is then the job would only run the tape in that partitions and if there is not overwritable tape in the partition it would prompt you to insert one using the import command and you have to import the tape to the same partition .

Incase if you are inserting a new tape you need to make sure ,you have ran inventory on the tape as before using the tape inventory should be run on the tape . and the job will overwrite the imported tape only when inventory has been ran on the tape before ..

hope this helps

It seems that in this case the tape used by HP2 is in different Media Set than the Media set selected in the backupjob which runs on HP1. Make sure that both the tapes are in same Media set. See if you can move the tapes to Scratch media set so that the backup job will pick up the tape from scratch media, write the data to it (overwrite) and then move it to the required media set.

Thanks,

-Sush...

When a tape fills up and BE is attempting to span to another media, that requested media HAS to be overwritable.  BE will never append onto a second tape.
