Pre-command function not really pre-command

My client is backing up to removable hard disks daily. Each day, a new bkj file is added. Eventually the hd fills up and the backups begin to fail. So, I created a batch file to delete all bkj files on the hd and tried to call it with the pre command function. However, it looks like the job creates a new bkj file before running the pre command. Therefore, the bkj file gets deleted before the backup starts and causes an error when it tries to start.

In my mind, the pre-command should be just that. It should run before all BackupExec commands but it obviously doesn't. Any help with this function would be appreciated.
