Prevent Overwrite job from automatically ejecting overwrite protected tape

I'm trying to set up a policy that will write a full backup to a new/overwritable tape and then do inc. backups to the same tape until it's full/changed.

Thinking:
Run a daily inc. and have it append to tape (Job 1 below). If the job fails because a new/overwritable tape has been inserted (not appendable) then kick off a full backup w/ overwrite (Job 2 below). Overwrite protection will prevent Job 2 from overwriting the current tape if Job 1 fails for any other reason, like skipped open files.

Setup:
Job 1 - Daily Inc - Append to tape, term job if not appendable.
Job 2 - First Full - Overwrite

Schedule:
Job 1 - Every day
Job 2 - Only when Job 1 fails

The problem:
Job 1 often fails because of skipped/open files and kicks off Job 2.
Job 2 automatically ejects the current tape because it's not overwritable, overwrite protection date not past.
I don't want the tape to be ejected at all; the overwrite job should just fail.

Question:
Is there a way to set up BE to not automatically eject the tape when an Overwrite job runs and there isn't overwritable media in the drive? The job should just fail.

Thanks.

FYI: Running Backup Exec 10d on Windows 2003.

Not AFAIK.

Backup Exec has acted this way since at least as far back as v6.1, so don't hold your breath waiting for v11 to change it.
