Problem with AOFO and Shadow Copy Components

Steve_Rogers
Level 2
Im having trouble on our Exchange server with the function of AOFO and Shadow Copy Components Heres some troubleshooting steps Ive already taken:

1.When I select the AOFO option to back up the C: partition, the backup hangs while taking a Snapshot.
2.If I only select Shadow Copy Components, the backup hangs in pre-processing.
3.If I select de-select AOFO, select the C: partition, and de-select Shadow Copy Components, I get a completed backup.
4.If I run NTBACKUP, I get a successful backup of the System State.
5.I have tried backing up to tape and to disk, with the same results.
6.Exchange Information Store on E: backs up OK w Exchange Agent

Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this problem? Id sleep better if I knew we could get a reliable backup of our Exchange Servers C: partition!

HELP!

Environment:
Windows Server 2003 w SP1
Backup Exec 10.1d w SP2
Domain Controller
Exchange Server 2003 (Installed on E: Partition)

Hello,

-- Are you backing up the Exchange data with Advanced open file option?

-- It is recommended not to use Aofo Option durning the Exchange backup..

Kindly refer the following Document for the same:

What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?

Thank you,

Shweta

You're question is not relevant to my problem.

I'm running a separate backup job to get a complete backup of the OS C: partition, including Shadow Copy Components. This backup is hanging if I run either of these jobs where I:
1.Select Shadow Copy Components exclusively (with AOFO)
OR
2.Select the C: volume with AOFO

Exchange is not on the C: partition. It is installed on the E: partition, and I?m getting a successful backup of the Information Store using the Exchange Agent. I?m NOT using the AOFO for backing up the Information Store.

My problem is that Backup Exec is not working when Microsoft Shadow Copy Services are being used to back up the C: partition. Microsoft NTBACKUP works fine and will back up the C: partition and the System State, so Microsoft says this is a Symantec/Veritas issue.

Can you help?

Clarification:
Item 1 above should say:
1. Select Shadow Copy Components exclusively (with or without AOFO)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
