Hi Forum,

I have read elsewhere that a Backup Exec Server licence also effectively includes an 'Agent for Windows' license.

But I have some other questions, if I may:

1a) Does a Backup Exec 2012 Server license also effectively include an 'Agent for Database' license, to cover it's own MS SQL database ?

1b) If so, does this only apply if the MS SQL database is located on the BE server itself ?

1c) If the MS SQL database for BE is located on a seperate server, do I still an additional 'Agent for Database' licence if the only database on the other MS SQL server is the database for the BE server - or does the Backup Exec Server license cover me for the MS SQL database (for BE) no matter where it is located ?

2) Does an 'Agent for Database' license effectively include an 'Agent for Windows' license - or - if I want to backup databases and files from any given database server, then do I need both licenses ('Agent for Database' AND 'Agent for Windows') for each server from which I want to backup both databases and files ?

3) I have seen other posts that indicate that if I want to backup Active Directory then I will need an 'Agent for Database' license ?  Does anyone know where I can find out whether this is true or not ?

4) Does anyone have a link to, or a copy of, the BE licensing guide that they can share ?

5) Does an 'Agent for VMware and Hyper-V' license provide license coverage for any number of guest VMs at the VM host level, or is this license a 'per VM' license ?

Thanks,

Dave.

The BE Server license does come with a Windows agent license so that it can backup the media server, I.e., itself. It does not come with an Agent for Applications and Databases licenses because BE does it's own backup of the BEDB so there is no need for you to back it up. All you need to do is to backup the Data directory under the BE installation directory. The Agent for Applications and Databases agent includes a Windows agent license The VMware/Hyper-V agent license allows you to load an unlimited number of remote agent onto the VM's hosted on the licensed host, but you would still need to buy Agent for Applications and Databases licenses for each application/database in each VM
