RALUS agent - unable to use selection list, account logon fails

mike_brooker
Level 5
Posted this before and have never got an answer - so here goes again. (do Symantec read this?)

Here is a summary of the Veritas issue.

BE10.d server with all latest hotfixes running on Win2k +SP4 latest updates

I have 2 Linux server running SLES10, the RALUS agent works fine on one but not the other

The issue is that only one of the RALUS agents (agent #5629) allows me to select items from the selection list. Both have the same username/password i.e. root, then the password.

It is displayed in the selection list but when you select it gets and try and connect you get the following error message "an error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of \\server1-lx1 the function is not implemented'

I've checked the following:

1) ps aux to check if agent is running - it is

2) Compared the /etc/backupexec/agent.cfg with the one on the other server, they are the same

3) It is not a NIS master or slave

4) The default port is 10000 for both, both config files look identical. Port 10000 is not being used buy any other process

5) NDMP port 10000 is not being blocked (there is no firewall running at all) and the /etc/services files is the same for NDMP port 10000 on both servers

6) Tried changing the port over and it has made no difference - but I have a query on the procedure so maybe do to do that again, the query is when changing the port for ndmp, Veritas says that the changes must take place on every server in the environment, so I assueme that I have to change ports for Windows as well as Linux?

7)

Ran in debug mode and got the following output

The finger is pointing at the RALUS agent as I've used ethereal on the Linux server and can see BE10.d sending authentication request (you can see it trying to connect as "root" which is correct) but just gets no response back.

Hope that is enough information.

Hi Mike,

I think the debug output you provided failed for a different reason, namely that the agent was already running in the background and thus port 10000 was not available with for the debug run. Can you try again without the agent running in the background? Thanks!

Regards,
Russell.

Good point - I'll run it again, might have to be next week now as running big backup at the moment!

Sorry for the delay, been away.

Well I decided to remove to the ralus agent and then try a re-installing, this time when I run the installer I get the following error

This driving me nuts - as I said, one agent installed first go, this second agent just will not play and it has now be 6 months since I purchased this {Editted For Content} agent.
