RAWS problems

I have been experiencing backup failures due to RAWS being unavaiable. I tried to install several hotfixes and SP2 and SP3. I log a consistant error in the applications log as follows SuperSocket Info: Connection listen (shared memory (lpc)): error 5 and the MSI rolls back the install and prompts me to seek assistance I also tried extracting the file from the exe and running the install from the run command with the command suggested getting the exact same error as above.

Hi Steve

- Make sure you uninstall RAWS the "clean way"
http://support.veritas.com/docs/232443

- Check if Port 10000 is used on Media or remote server

- Depending on the OS, make sure Remote Registry service is started, and reinstall MSI 3.1

- Delete Bkupinst.log or Bepush.log in Windows folder

- Log on as Domain Admin

- Perform a local install of RAWS
http://support.veritas.com/docs/270066

Hope this helps.

I followed the instructions to re-insatll the raws service but it appears the r_server.exe file has been completely removed from the system. I have recently been promoted to sys admin for this system and have not found a useable backup that predates the removal. I 've looked for a replacment file with no luck. This is a fully patched versiond of windows server 2003, it is a standalone D/C on a small network (single server). Still no luck. Thanks for your help it is deeply appreciated.

Steve,

As far as I know, R_exec is part of RAdmin:

What don't you just try to reinstall the product? Anyway, hope your RAWS issue's completely solved.

I uninstalled and re-installed, Good news the backup exec remote service agent is now running. I've set up schedule and will set it to test this evening. The bad news i I get the same eoor when trying to patch the product with service pack 3. Perhaps I have to cut my losses here and let thsi system work this way for now.

Not good!

Post a new thread with a fresh \WINDOWS\Bkupinst.log file (delete it and reproduce the issue) details of the encountered error, I'll check it tomorrow, have to leave.

The original issue is solved, it's dinner time here in Paris :)
