Ralus Client Unable to Connect

nocaccount
Level 2

Hello,

Having some difficulty getting the Ralus Client for Linux/Unix functioning on a new install. Users, groups and passwords have all been verified to be set correctly. Network connectivity has also been tested and verified. Tests have been performed with NO firewalls of any kind (iptables etc) and yield the same results.

The client is attempting to connect to a Windows 2003 Server running Backup Exec 12.

Linux (hostname omitted) 2.6.23.17-88.fc7 #1 SMP Thu May 15 00:02:29 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Fedora release 7 (Moonshine)

# cat ralus.ver

ralus=2213.8

mdm=MDM_v0.0.3497

vxms=VxMS_v4.4-026

It was installed from the package:

BEWS_12.5.2213_LINUX-UNIX-MAC-SAP_AGENTS.tar.gz

Output of the config file:

The advertisement of the client shows up on the windows server. When trying to create a new job (debug above) from the windows server and select the client, the following message is generated:

“An error was encountered while trying to browse the contents of (hostname here). A network connection to server could not be established.”

The option to create, choose a user is never even presented.

Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

 Well it might have something to do with Fedora not being listed on the Software Compatibility Lists on 12.0 or 12.5
12.0 = ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/295304.pdf
12.5 = ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/295304.pdf

Colin,

Thank you for the response.

I do see that Fedora is not specifically listed in the compatibility list for supported operating systems, however with Fedora being built on the same core as RHEL it seems that it should work. We do have systems with the client running on CentOS (which is also the same backend and not on the list) without issue.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or input?

Thanks.

 Just check if you are able to telnet to port 10000 from BE server to the client  just in case if that port is being occupied by a different application . If that's the case , you can change the port number to something other than 10000 for NDMP in the services file on Fedora .

also try ./beremote --log -console and  see if it gives any output.

Hi Zaki,

I appreciate the respose. Connectivity on port 10000 is good and that is the strange part indeed. The last portion of my first post contains the output of ./beremote --log-console. If you look at that output you can see where the client actually establishes a connection to the server when it is selected from the list of systems. The connection is then very quickly closed for some unknown reason. I can confirm that port 10000 is not in use on the system.

Any other ideas/input welcome.

Thanks again.
