Rebuild from bare metal

We back up our data regularly but recently had a serious failure on a hard disk and found that we lost 4/5 days while the system was reinstalled. Our present scheme is to back up to folders on another machine on the network for the data and we are proposing to use an USB drive connected directly to the server for the system backup. We shall need to buy your disaster recovery software and the question is will your disaster recovery software be able to rebuild the machine from a local usb drive (we are assuming that a network folder would really be too complex and the NIC drivers would have to be installed).
Thanks

No you cannot do an IDR restore using a locally attached B2D device. ie. B2D is the USB drive.

Doing a remote IDR however does work.

I don't see a reason you couldn't install a fresh copy of Windows, then install Veritas, then plug in your USB drive and hit "restore".

In these forums, we keep seeing IDR complicating things, but without it I can't imagine why it would be any different to the process we do with a tape drive.
