Hi all,

I want to make sure that my Remote Agent is disconnecting from a file or files after backing up. I want to do this to verify that Backup Exec isn't the problem that I'm currently experiencing. There are some files that can't be assesed (via network) because there being assesed by another program. I can't seem to pin point what program is opening the file. I have tried rebooting the PC and same result. All help appreciated

You can use Process Explorer

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

to find out if it is indeed BackupExec that is locking the files, tho I seriously doubt it.

If not, it will may be tedious, but you should be able to figure out what process actually is

Dear Mrs.:

If you are referring to a Remote Server - NOT the Media Server - you can simply proceed to shut down the Windows service.

Go to Start - Run, and type "Services.msc", and in the list of services locate "Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems" and stop that service.

With the Service stopped, you can make sure that you are ruling out BE's Remote Agent from staying "connected" to any local files.

Process Monitor is the ticket.  There is also another tool called I think FileMon is actually what you want, but it was replaced with Process Monitor

Process Explorer May show the info, but it would be burried in a subtext.
