Remote Agent

Hi All,

I am running BackupExec 11d on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit Dell server.  I am trying to install a remote agent to a 2008 R2 64 bit VM guest machine. Can I download the remote agent for Win 2008 some where on Symantecs website? Doesn't BackupExec 11d support backing up Win 2008 servers?

Symantec says you have to have v2010 to install a media server on 2008R2

No, it doesn't

You need v12.0 to run a RAWS on W2008, and v12.5 for 2008R2

As people move to newer operating systems, or newer versions of applications, it's not so much buy a new server and away you go.  There are always dependancies with other applications that you don't think of.  Case in point, Backup Software.

It wasn't till BackupExec 12.5 (and a certain service pack level) that Win2k8 R2 was even supported as a client.  

BackupExec 2010 was the first version to support Win2k8R2 as a Media server as well as client.

We're up to BackupExec 2010 R3, roughly 5 MAJOR versions ahead of your existing 11d build.

It's time for you to upgrade.  Symantec ALWAYS publishes a compatibility list for both hardware and software support.  This includes what remote agents on what OS are supported, where you can install the BE server, tape drives, Application verstions, etc.  It's a handy document you should refer to when touching anything that is affected by BackupExec.
