Remote agent install.

Hi!

I have a problem when i try to install a remote agent on a NetWare server.
It works alright using the guide, i find the server, the files is copied up to 100% ready, but there it stops.
The installer box contaning the message "Please wait while Windows configures Veritas Backup Exec for windows servers" never shuts down. and if i use "Next" in the main window i get a installation failure.

The server i use for Backup Exec is a Windows 2003 server.

What is the problem and how do i solve it?

Thanks
thomas

On your media server, check the log file

c:\windows\system32\bepushes.log

and on the remote server

c:\windows\system32\bepush.log

These will provide more information about the installation and should give you a basis for further troubleshooting

On the Windows server (media server) there is no file with that name. I made a search on the whole drive for be*.log , the only file matching was bediscovery.log.

The server that should recieve the agent is a NetWare server, there is no "c:\windows\.....".

I looked in the folder where the agenfiles where installed and the only log-file i found was "Bkupinst.log", nothing seems to be wrong there and the file ended with "Finished the netware agent install".

Hi,

Which version of NetWare are you using?

Please let us know what error you get when you press "Next" in the Installation window.

Could you please paste the relevant part of the bkupinst.log here?

Hi again.

We use NetWare 6.5 Sp4

The message when i press next is:
"The wixard was interupted before the selected program could be remotly installed.
To install this program later......."

The bkupinst.log reads as follows:

Pushing Netware Agent installation files.
Moving the Remote agent Files.
Successfully updated BENW.DIR file on target server.
Renamed: \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTART.NCF To \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTART.ORG
Wrote: SEARCH ADD SYS:\BKUPEXEC\NLMS to the NCF File \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTART.NCF
Wrote: LOAD SYS:\BKUPEXEC\NLMS\BKUPEXEC.NLM -tr %1 %2 to the NCF File \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTART.NCF
Renamed: \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTOP.NCF To \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTOP.ORG
Wrote: LOAD SYS:\BKUPEXEC\NLMS\BESTOP.NLM %1 %2 to the NCF File \\TOR\SYS\SYSTEM\BESTOP.NCF
Finished creating the NCF files.
Fininshed the netware agent install.

The overwriting part must be a result of the reinstall i had to do to get the errormessage for you. before i had deleted the target directory at the server.

For your information - here is the files in the target directory:

Hello,

Follow the steps given below and check if it helps:

1. Ensure that Client Services for NetWare is installed on the Server from where installation is attempted.
2. Ensure that Netware server is running both IP and IPX.
3. Type Bestop.ncf on system console and remove the existing installation of Remote Agent.
a. Rename the BKUPEXEC directory to BKUPEXEC.OLD
b. Delete bestart.ncf and bestop.ncf files in Sys:System\
4. Add the host name and IP address of the NetWare on the Windows server from which the push installation of Remote Agent will be carried out.
5. start the installation of NetWare Agent

If the issue persists, revert with details. Update on the same.

Hi!

This suggestions didn´t help, but i think i found a sollution anyway.

The problem was that all the modules that BESTOP should unolad wasn´t unloaded.
Some modules was unloaded, some couldn´t be unloaded due to dependecies.
I manually unloaded the modules that could be directly unloaded and deleted all files mentioned earlier.
After that i installed a NetWare agent i downloaded from this supportsite.
Now i can run my previously configured backup job from Backup Exec.

This does not solve the problem of installing the agent from Backup Exec, but it is a way to go around the problem.
