Remove BackupExec without Local or remote SQL Database

Hi all,

We lost our SQL server where the BEDB resided. the server wasnt important so no backups were taken.

I want the DB back on the local MSDE SQL Server but when i try and Remove, Reinstall, Change Location i cannot as it cannot find the original database.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Hello,

Do you mean to say that the SQL server which contained the BEDB crashed? In that case, backup exec too must have stopped working.

If not, check if the following technotes help:

Hi there,

Yes Crashed as opposed to losing it in a pile of rubbish or work.

I have already tried the documents you have suggested but no joy. I have found another way to sort this by using the MSI Installer Cleanup Util from M$ followed by deletion of FS objects and Registry Keys. This seems to have worked on our test server. although the test server is not 100% exact to the prob on the production server.

I must say i am not impressed with this error at all. If you lose the database you should be able to reinstate the local MSDE without the SQL server it used to be on. It concerns me that if this had happened on a live system then i wouldn't have been able to restore the BEDB db and a knock on effect would be that i would not be able to restore my SQL Data as BackupExec will not run without DB.

HI,

Refer the Technote given below :

For optimal results, the Backup Exec Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine instance should not be installed into an existing SQL instance.

Update us on the same and revert for any further Query
Hope this will help you

Thank you
Gauri
