Restore VMware VM from tape

I want to test a disaster recovery for all the server. So I want to rent some hardware and rebuild the entire server enviroment. But I have some questions.

First, this is what we have:

  • BackupExec 20 (running on a management server)
  • Tape unit for backup
  • Two VMware host
  • NetApp storage

This is what I want to rent:

  • Management server with tape unit
  • Host server with VMware and enough local storage

When I want to restore a single file from a VM, I need a lot of staging storage. That's clear, but do I need also staging storage when I restore a complete VM? It's important for me, because in case of staging storage, I have to rent a lot of disk storage Smiley Happy

If you restore the entire VM, then there is no need for staging
