Restoring to new SATA hard drive

If my backups are from a previous installation of windows server 2003 on an IDE drive, Can i restore to a brand new Windows installation on a (new) SATA drive?

I guess what i mean is, does restoring overwrite the driver for the SATA controller ? or will it be ok?

Thanks.

Are you trying to restove via IDR, or just installing W2K3 on a server and restoring to that?

Absolutely.. you are talking about the same machine in other regards right?

It's probably not supported, but I do things like this all the time. You *might* need to NOT restore boot.ini.

Hello,

The machine that you are restoring to should have similar hardware.

Please see the technote below which will help you further regarding this:

Also please note regarding your second question:
It will overwrite the drivers for the SATA controller when you do a restore for entire system.
Also if you restore and there is a driver conflict then it can cause Blue screen for which you might need to contact Microsoft.

Thanks,
