Retention Policy question

Gents,
Current backups are being stored on a local disk (1TB)...  I see backupexec is creating 5GB .bkf files.

I presume that is the way backupexec treats local media.

The disk is full now.  What would be the most proper way to tell backupexec to reuse these?

Thanks

Global Option (Tools\Media Management)
Overwrite Protection needs to be set to either Partial or Full
need to select "reuse overwritable media in target media set before scratch media"  rather than "use scratch before overwritable"

The jobs should be Overwrite not Append and the OPP of the media set(s) need to be such that they may be reused after the data is no longer needed (14 days or whatever your needs are)

I like how you have the .bkf files set to 5 GB, but you may want to have them set to 4 GB. By doing this you can copy the files off onto standard DVDs, allowing you to have a point-of-time archive. This is something i do for my company, but not on a daily or monthly base.

This may not be the best way, but i go back and review the time stamp on the .bkf files. When not needed i simply delete the file, then delete the items in the media set.

Hope that helps.
