Hello,

Whenever the TAPE complets the Overwrite Protection Period it is reusable and the TAPE goes to the Recyclable media set.

Go to Tools > Options > Media Management and select "Use recyclable media before Scratch Media"

So backup exec will look for recyclable media before scratch media and use the media which is out of retension

Hi Dev,

Following is the one I need clarification,If a tape1 is full and tape2 has been taken from scratch pool for next backup. Tape1 remains on the same  volume pool ,After some days the retention set  at tape1 erasing the content .Will future backup will store on the tape1 automatically. Or am I need to do manual redirection to tape1.

When your job uses Tape 1 from the scratch media set, it will associate it with the media set (volume pool) that the job is targeted to.  Tape 1 will remain in this media set until you manually associate it with another media set.

When the Overwrite Protection Period for Tape 1 expires, Tape 1 can be used again.  If you are using an autoloader and Tape 1 is in the autoloader, it will be used automatically by your job when it needs to a tape to overwrite.

In the Media tab, when you click on the tape, you will get the tape statistics in the lower right pane.  There you can see the used, available and total capacity of the tape.
