Good Afternoon All,
We are getting the following error:
Exact Error Message:
Robotic library hardware error.
The robotic library has reported a general hardware error condition. Manual intervention, calibration, etc., may be required. This may be a device related hardware problem, or it may be some other hardware problem (i.e. SCSI card/bus etc).
We are running Backup Exec 8.6 on a Compaq Proliant Server running on Windows 2000 Server. It is attached to a Compaq TL-895 Tape library via SCSI. At first we were intermittently getting this error that would end up taking the library offline requiring a restart of the services. Now we get this error before the library even finishes it's inventory on startup of the library or the services.
I have tried:
Updating the autoloader and tape drive drivers to the latest Veritas drivers.
Re-installing Backup-Exec.
Running diagnostics from HP/Compaq that find no problems.
I am also able to command the library to move tapes from slot to slot with this tool.
Uninstalled all recent Windows Updates.
REMOVABLE STORAGE SERVICE IS DISABLED.
I found a solution for this problem for version 9 or 10, but the registry fix in the article doesn't seem to apply to Version 8.6. See Link Below:

I have done a search of the Veritas website for:
Search Criteria
"Robotic library hardware error"
Version 8.6
Windows 2000
and got alot of hits, but no solutions.
I have spent a week on this already.
Please Help if you can.
Thank You in advance.
Regards,
Tony Ludwick
