We are going to purchase SBS 2011 with the Add On server. We only are going to need one server and wish to use Backup Exec for this. When installing SBS 2011 on one box however, both server OS's need to be installed virtually with Hyper V. We would like to use tape backup for offsite DR reasons. Does BE SBS version allow for installing on the Hyper-V host to handle backing up SBS 2011 in this scenario? If not what do we need so we can backup to tape and backup SBS and all of it's features (Exchange, SharePoint, SQL, etc.)?

Unfortunately, Windows 2008 Core is not supported as a media server. See the SCL below

You may install BE on the VM which has SBS installed, only challenge you may face is
configuring tape device with the VM.

If you want to use a tape drive, then you should install BE on the Hyper-V host with the BE SBS serial number and install the remote agent in the VM with the SBS 2011. This configuration is allowed and in fact is the recommended configuration in your case. However, do note the gotcha stated in this document
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH140561
If you have other VM's on this host that needs to be backed up, then you should buy additional RAWS licences for them or a AMHV licence.

But I wouldn't need the additional SQL, Exhchange, etc. agents?

...if you run normal Backup Exec for Windows Server then you will need agents for any applications you need to back up.
If it is Backup Exec for Small Business Server, then read the Symantec document below.

I have also attached a Symantec TN to read through, depending on environment you will be running:

Your BE SBS licence comes with licences for Exchange, SQL Server, etc. to backup the applications on a SBS machine. Installing BE SBS on the Hyper-V host and backing up a SBS VM does not violate the SBS licencing agreement, so you can still back up the SBS VM without problems.
If you have additional VM's on this host, then you would need to acquire addtional licences to back them up. Let's say, you have another VM running SQL Server. You would need to buy an additional SQL Server licence to backup this VM as if it is a physical machine. (The SQL agent licence comes with a RAWS licence).

Okay, now I can't find any documentation on how to install BE on a Windows 2008 R2 Std Core Installation. Is that info available anywhere?
