SQL DB backups failure

Brett_Lindsey
Level 3
Hi

We're currently experencing issues with one of SQL DB backups. Upon backing backing up OS files and folders on the server; all goes well. Yet upon selection the SQL DBs (using the SQL agent licence), the back up fails with the below error/s.

We have attempted:
/ backing up just the SQL DBs - FAILED
/ backing up just the OS files on the server - SUCCESS
/ creating a new backup job just for the SQL DBs - FAILED
/ logging onto SQL Ent Mngr with the exact credentials used in the failed backup of the SQL DBs - SUCCESS

Might be an idea to create a user on your pdc/or on the 2003 server solely for Backup Exec with domain admin/admin etc priviliges, this is what we have had to do when backing up raid systems on a 2003 server, if you try and use the system administrator id of the 2003 box it will deny access.

We are still experiencing the problem.

The event log of the SQL server is showing the following. We have tried the domain 'administrator' account along with numerous SQL admin logins, newly created domain admin accounts etc... still no luck.

An error occurred while attempting to log in to the following server: "SERVERNAME".
SQL error number: "4818".
SQL error message: "Login failed for user 'backup'.
".

When you say numourous SQL Admin logins, does that include the "sa" login?

If not, give it a whirl, if you have already tried it, then I don't know.

Ensure that the Logon Account used for connecting to the SQL DB is member of "System Administrators" in "Server Roles" for the SQL installation.

Check the connectivity from Backup Exec server to SQL server instance using the Enterprise Manager.
