SSO Option for 2014

iammejutty
Level 3

I have been looking through the manual and I cannot see the SSO option for BackupExec 2014.  i have the need for 2 backup servers to share the same tape drives and VTL devices. This is possible with 2010 using the SSO option without the need for using CASO.  I am quite happy with the SSO option and managing the jobs on each device but having the optiotn to restore data from any of the servers.  This provides a level of redundancy (catalogues are on each server rather than being stored centrally) and without the extra overhead of managing and configuring the CASO option in terms of redundancy if the Central CASO goes down.  That is unless the wasy CASO works has changed.

Hi,

Check the licensing guide below...you're looking at the Enterprise Server Option...

Thanks!

Prior to BE 2012

SSO gave sharing library functionality but not sharing job distribution

CASO gave the sharing job distribution part

What was not obvious was that you did not need SSO (on a technical level) to share a library as CASO could do that anyway and in fact using CASO with SSO on same server actually blocked the ability to use certain settings. Note at the time if sharing a library you did need SSO on a legal level relating to the licensing requirements  even if you did not install it.

For both BE 2012 and 2014, CASO and SSO (and as it happens part of ADBO) are all grouped under an ESO license and whether or not you use the modes that used to be specific to either SSO or CASO on their own now purely depends on configuration options and not a different license (other than ESO itself) or installed options
