Service Pack 3 Fails

Hi,

I have BE 9.1 build 4691 on a Windows 2003 SBS server, and I've been trying to install SP3.
Every time I run the install it gets all the way to the end, and then it begins a rollback.
The only thing it says is that the install was interrupted.
I have downloaded the service pack twice in case it was a bad download.
Please help !

Hello,

Please check the bkupinst.log file located in c:\Winnt.
In this log file please check for the last entry of "start time".
In this please check for "return value: 3" or error for the exact error message.

Please paste that entry of log file in forum.

I also tried to do an uninstall and recieved Error 1606 could not access network location ECM. Then I tried a repair and recieved Error 1:2755 2: 3 3: Here is the log file from the repair. SP3 install may not be the major issue. I was trying to install due to misc issues. I can no longer run any backups they start to run but never backup any data the job monitor just stays at running the timer stops and no bytes have been written to tape. Looks like the job service stops at that time. If I could completely remove and re-install that would be fine.

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall Backup Exec.

Because of the repair install all the files must have got reset which were changed by the HFs that you must have applied.

Hello,

To manually uninstall Backup Exec 9.x, follow the instructions given below:

1. Download the Microsoft Installer (MSI) Cleanup utility, and install it on the system in question.

The MSI Installer Cleanup utility can be currently obtained from the Microsoft Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301 .

2. After the application is installed, run it from Start | Programs | Windows Install Clean Up

3. Select VERITAS Update and VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows Servers, and then click Remove

4. Click Exit to end the clean up process

OK I have manually uninstalled and reinstalled 9.1. When I try to instapp SP3 it does not complete and rolls back, Here is the log files you asked for .

After looking at the error I checked and found the administrator account did not have the needed rights to modify a registry key

I modifies the rights and the upgrade worked.

I am unable to reboot this server until Thursday so I will know until then if the backups will pass.

Hi could the problem with trying to install SP3 be as simple as you are tring to do it remotely??

I found I get the interruptions during install with any patch if not done physically on the server
