Slow Backups from one array but not another

I have a file server with two arrays. Array 1 backups up anywhere from 900MB/min to 1300MB/min on a good day. Array 2 backups up at around 2800MB/min consistently. They are both connected to the same RAID controller on the same server. The same type of data is on both arrays, lots and lots of small office documents.

Array 1:

- RAID 5 300GB 15k SAS drives

- Not in a degraded state

Array 2:

- RAID 1 2TB 7.2k SATA Drives

- No in a degraded state

What can I check to determine why Array 2 is so much faster than Array 1?

It is probably because Array 1 is RAID 5.

Thanks for the response. I have tested doing standard file copies over the network and get the same to faster speeds with Array 1 when I do that.
