Slow local backups

I am experiencing extremely slow throughput when backing up local drives. Remote backups are running in the 250-300mb/min range, but when I backup the local C:, E:, and F: drives, throughput slows to 100mb/min, 25mb/min and 7mb/min respectively.

Veritas v9.1 SP4a
Tape device is ADIC Scalar 24 with 2 Quantum SDLT320 drives connected to server via fiber.
Server is Compaq ML370 with dual Pentium III 1.266Ghz and 2GB RAM
Local drives are C: 4GB partion on RAID1, E: 29GB partion on RAID5, F: 35GB partion on same RAID5, all using Compaq Smart Array 431 controller.
Am also backing up 400GB partion on SAN, connected via fiber, that runs in the 200mb/min range.

Local drives are not fragmented.

Why would the local drives be so much slower than SAN or Remote backups?

Went through all the suggestions (actually before posting to this forum) with the exception of changing SCSI settings on my local RAID drives. This is a production box and I cannot restart until this weekend.

No improvement, in fact, now the local drives have slowed to 3 MB/min throughput!

Hi,

Split the backup for test purpose and create separate jobs for each local drive!

Also test backup to backup to disk folder and verify the throughput!

Try disabling Anti virus programm and check the throughput!
