backup can not finish task, using 100% of memory, speed ->0 and task crashes..

which OS are you running?
what kind of data are you backuping?
Try to disable anti-virus.

BEEngine.exe doesn't usually consume a whole lot of memory, so it sounds like a Backup Exec problem. I suspect that the slowdown in backup speed may be a result of the system using the pagefile excessively. Your starting rate of 500MB/min isn't actually great to start with, though the speed depends on lots of other factors.
Have you tried a reinstall of Backup Exec yet, or installation on another machine to see if the problem is reproducible?
