Sony SDX-450V and Veritas 9.1 Slow backup rate

Hello,

I am a lot of difficulty with this tape drive and a very slow rate of backup. it is backing up at a rate of around 30meg/minute when according to the product spec it should be around 240meg/minute.

I have applied the latest updates to the veritas software and the latest veritas tape drivers, and this hasnt made any difference. I then tried to unload those drivers and use the Sony WHQL drivers. This also hasnt made any difference.

The only other strange thing I have noticed is that it is detected by Windows as Sony AIT 40GB SCSI Drive when I thought the drive is a 35/90GB tape drive.

The firmware version of the tape drive is 0100 as indicated by the Sony Tape Utility program I have also installed. The server is Windows Server 2003 with SP1.

has anybody else experienced this kind of problem or has this tape drive working fine with Veritas 9.1 and Windows 2003 could provide some help on the correct configuration I would be very grateful.

Regards

Thanks for your suggestions. To get it to work all normal speed. I unloaded the veritas versions of the drivers and used the Sony WHQL drivers from Microsoft. Then on the configuration option of the device I reset the options back to default. (not sure how they changed in the first place)

This changed the Block Size from 32K to 64K and Buffer Size from 32K to 64K and it all started to work at normal speed.

I think it was more me setting those tape device options back to the default which solved the problem rather than using the microsoft whql drivers, but it is all working fine now and the backup takes 2hours instead of 22hours to complete!! and if it aint broke dont fix it.

I had exactly the same problem, also with the Veritas-driver. After I have set the tapeconfig to default, it runs faster. I use Backup Excec 9.1. SBS, Win2003 SBS.

Hi

Had the same issue on Windows 2000SP4 with backup Exec 9.1.

Used the vendor drivers. Works 100%...
