Hi,
I don't know nothing about backup, I'm responsible for SAN.
We are using Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 - the person who is responsible for backup would like to make a test restore of a SQL 2008 database to a Windows2008r2 restore server. The database is size 200GB - the person who is responsible for backup says that 400GB free space is required for restore !
Is it correct that double size free space is needed? After restore I would have 200GB which is "waste" - I believe there is something wrong with the way the person restores SQL databases.

The restored database should occupy the same space as the original database.

Hi pkh,
Is there any documentation on that? Links?

It will take the double size to restore the database, because when you talking about restore database then logs will restored too with database.
