Status of differentials after a Full backup failure.

Hi :

I have a situation where full backups sometimes fail due to a problem mounting shadow copy volume. The differential backups that follow are always successful.  My question is, "are the differentials relative to the last successfull  full backup (and therefore good) or are they relative to the recent failed full backup (and therefore not useful for restore)?"

Thanks

The second scenario is the correct one. You should rerun the failed full before running the differential

are you limited on disk space against creating VSS Shadow Copies on voluems within the server being backed up or do you keep existing Shadow Copies?

Colin:

I'm not sure exactly what you mean.  Could you explain?

Thanx
